OT with an IT Mindset: Governance & Cybersecurity to Enable Digital Buildings
Welcome to our NexusCon 2024 event recordings! These recordings and slides are available for Nexus Pro Members only.
About NexusCon
The industry needed a different type of conference, so we built it. NexusCon 2024 was full of sponsor-free content, real-world case studies, and most importantly, our community.
We heard from 109 speakers across 24 different sessions over a span of 3 days. Although nothing beats the in-person real-time learnings from NexusCon, we are excited to release the NexusCon session recordings to our Nexus Pro Community. We have over 40 hours of hot takes, knowledge bombs, collaborations, and disagreements among smart buildings industry experts to share with you.

About the Session
As buildings become more digitally integrated, the convergence of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) presents new opportunities and challenges. This session explores how adopting an IT mindset for OT systems can enhance governance and cybersecurity, ensuring that digital buildings are not only smart but also secure and reliable. This session covers the following briefings:
1. Managing OT Systems with an IT Mindset
McKesson covers the lessons learned regarding the network utilization of emerging facility management technologies, including user access management, avoiding ownership confusion between IT and OT, addressing issues with alarm data transportation, and diagnosing network failures.
2. Leveraging Network Analytics To Improve Reliability of Building Automation Systems at Dartmouth College
Dartmouth College, Optigo Networks, and Ace IoT Solutions discuss the importance of OT network integrity for data transportation and explain how updates to the Dartmouth building network allowed the college to respond rapidly to issues and fix broken integrations, resulting in significant year-over-year energy savings.
3. The Real ROI of Centralization vs Cloudification
Kilroy Realty and Neeve share the multiple-year-long deployment and standardization of a secure access services edge (SASE) on their OT network to show the compounding effects of making aligned, sustained, and integrated technology decisions.
After all three presentations, a moderated panel discussion between the presenters attempt to converge on the answer to the session challenge: What are the top five most impactful OT practices and why?
